The MO can be used in several different Modes that you access by pressing one of the following buttons:
VOICE: For just playing MO’s basic sounds. Voices can be made from up to 4 ‘Elements’ (complete little synth engines) but everything is on a single MIDI channel, and 64 ‘element’ poly is your max.
PERFORMANCE: For playing combinations (layers or splits) of up to 4 Voices. Same polyphony count, and again, all on one MIDI channel.
SONG: For recording linear MIDI sequences. Press the MIXING Button alongside to view your various sounds and effects assignments.
PATTERN: For recording loop-based sequences. This is a brilliant creative tool. Something to make sure you learn about in time. Press the MIXING Button alongside to view your various sounds and effects assignments.
MASTER: This is simply a big old list of Voice, Performance, Song, and Pattern numbers you can put together mainly for live performance… when you want to play a Voice during one song, then a Performance in the next, call up a song for the one after that etc. MASTER mode also adds a new layer of MIDI Master Keyboard functionality but don’t stress on that right now.
MIXING: Not a mode as such but this is the button you press in order to set up multi-timbral activity
