Hello, I just got an old MotiF 8, repaired a broken key, installed a Plug in card and some sample ram, and try to get this big keyboard to work in my setup..
I ve a few questions I can’t really find answers in the manual for, and like to learn in general about this family of Yamaha keyboards.. I was pretty impressed by the fine analog front end these Motifs have.. op275 pampas and Nichcon Muse electrolytics.. Thats good sounding parts and not cheap. Yamaha wanted this thing to sound good…

But Question No 1..how can I update the OS? I need a SmartMedia card, put the os file on it..and?
Anybody can tell me what todo here?

Hi,

The following description is from the Readme file that comes with the final v1.90 update, which you can also find in the Motif Downloads section of this website (click “Home” and then the “Motif” menu tab):

1. After downloading, copy the uncompressed [0638OS_.PGM] file to a Smart Media card that has been formatted on the MOTIF. No other files should be present on the Smart Media card.

2. Turn off the MOTIF power.

3. Insert the Smart Media card into the MOTIF and turn on the power on the MOTIF while pressing the [REC] and [STORE] buttons.

4. The MOTIF OS updater will start.
The following message should appear:
“Insert card including only one PMG file, and press [ENTER] to load”
Press [ENTER] to continue the update process.

NOTE: It will take approximately 2 minutes for the updater to finish.
DO NOT turn off the MOTIF power during this time.

Thanks a lot, too bad that the google trick hasnt worked on a search for yamaha motif os update. But i guess after you answered my question a search with this keywords will at least have a result on the forum search here. Dont know why you need to add v1.7 to get results.
