Hello everyone!
I would like to expand my MOXF8 with a flash board so that I can play some of my software VSTi live. For sampling, I would use the SampleRobot 6 Pro (it automates it very well) and can create the following formats, among others: Yamaha Montage (*.XLU or *.X7L), Soundfont, Tascam Gigastudio and many more.
There used to be a video tutorial on Yamahasynth.com, which unfortunately no longer exists. I have a few questions on this topic:

1.Does anyone have experience with this or even some kind of tutorial?
2. In this case, can the creation be done using John Melas’ tools? (Import the Montage format and export in MOXF format?)
3.Are the voices saved on the flash board always loaded from there later or can they also be “transferred” to the internal memory of the MOXF?

I would be happy to receive answers.

Hi,

I unfortunately don’t, but perhaps someone else will reply to this.

John Melas’ Montage tools can handle MODX/MODX+ files, and probably import Motif XF voices and waveform content too, since the Montage itself is backwards-compatible with those and can load them directly. I doubt that the same tools can export to the older Motif XF or MOXF file formats, though, since the Montage only saves its own file types. You may have to check with John to make sure.

3.Are the voices saved on the flash board always loaded from there later or can they also be “transferred” to the internal memory of the MOXF?

Voices and Waveforms are two different things. On the MOXF, custom Voices are stored in the User voice banks, while custom Waveforms are stored on the Flash board. The MOXF does not have an internal sample memory (except for the factory waveforms, but those are stored in ROM memory and cannot be replaced).

Voice libraries and Waveform libraries can also be saved as separate files on a USB thumb drive. This is mostly useful for backup or import purposes, since save/load times for waveform data via USB are very slow compared to the Flash board.
