Hi...I have a Motif Rack XS and fairly recently got a used Motif XF6. I know that the Rack has no Performances like the XF, but it does have the equivalent Multis in one user bank at a time (compared to the 3 performance banks of the XS6 and the 4 performance banks of XF). I have noticed that the same 4-part Multi preset on the Rack sounds just slightly different than the exact same XF Performance counterpart. All the Voices and Drums and overall sounds are the same, but the XF sounds a bit drier than the Rack. I double-checked that all the Master Effets and Insertion Effects types and parameters are matching between the two, so I am not sure why the XF sounds slightly drier. Sometimes when I do disable the Master Effects of the particular XF Performance it does sound closer to the Rack Multi, but I am not sure why such a deliberate mismatch between the settings of the two devices would result in them sounding slightly more similar. In general, I prefer the Rack’s wetter Multi sound to the XF’s equivalent drier Performance sound. Anyone have any suggestions as to why they are slightly different so I can have more control and predictability regarding these sounds? Thanks. |

I think I may have begun to find my own answer after looking into this deeper myself. It seems that the Motif XF Performance Common Master Effects section has some extra FX parameters not found in the Motif Rack XS Multi/Mix Common Master Effects section. While they both share the same FX Reverb, Chorus and Master effects routing and return parameters, the MOTIF XF Performance Common Master Effects section, unlike the Motif Rack XS Multi/Mix Common Master Effects section, seems to also have an overall Reverb and Chorus level in addition to the Reverb and Chorus levels of the individual Parts. So to get a better match between the Motif Rack XS Multi sound and the corresponding Motif XF Performance sound, the MOTIF XF Performance Common Master Effects section overall Reverb and Chorus levels have to be adjusted to some default value appropriate to the Motif Rack XS. |
