Hello everyone!
I recently bought a used MX49 to use as a sound module as part of my midi din set up (was quite cheap!). Reading through the forum I also came across the Vycro MX editor which I’ve used today and works really well over usb. And I love the bigger screen to edit a performance, the MX screen somewhat takes the joy of music making away!

My issue comes about that I use my trusty old RS7000 as my central brain for sequencing and midi control (with other midi/vst synths and a vst controller for my PC’s, recording all the sounds through an interface to Reaper: Old School!).

I use a seperate mini PC to house all my editors (e.g. Korg M3, Roland S-1 etc). There are no DAW’s on it and I really dont want USB audio running through it.

Vycro MX, it appears, will only work with a USB connection and not midi din so my idea to use a midi merge box would not work.

I get that the MX can only use USB or midi, not simultaniously. However, I used to own a modx and an moxf which could be used with both (for the editor over usb and midi through din) with some jiggery pokery through the midi ports.

So my question is, given my current set up, is there a work around to have Vycro MX running whilst using my RS7 to control/play the MX49? Are there any other editors that are for the MX49 that are midi only? They really speed up my workflow!

Any advice warmly welcomed.

So, after some noodling around I found a workaround solution, of sorts..

By keeping the utility: midi/usb select on the screen of the MX I’m able to flick between Vycro usb editing and then midi playing on my RS7. The downside is that if I stay on midi too long then usb connection with Vycro is lost, but a quick save every now and then negates that somewhat!

Its great to have the motif sounds back in the set up..

Best wishes to all

Chrisman
