I recently bought the 80s PlayKeyz Soundest from Yamaha’s Downloadables site. The file name does have XF in it, but I own the XS. Their website doesn’t let you select the model keyboard you have when you buy the library, so should this still be compatible with the XS? |

Hi,
It all depends on what file type your downloaded soundset is. This is determined by the file extension (which is hidden if you’re on a Windows computer with default settings), so please check your file closer. For the Motif XS, voice libraries typically carry .X0A (All Data) or .X0V (All Voice) file extensions. In some cases, the .X0E (Editor) file type is used instead, which can be loaded both on the instrument and in the software editor. The «80s Pop/Rock» soundset dates back a few years, so there’s a chance it also contains Motif ES (.W7A, .W7V, .W7E) file types. The Motif XS can load these Motif ES file types directly, but is not compatible with files for the original Motif (.W2A, .W2V, .W2E). A Motif XF is backwards compatible with XS files, meaning that it can load its predecessor’s files, but it doesn’t work the other way round. Therefore, if your files are in XF native formats (.X3A, .X3V or .X3E), the XS won’t recognize them. - H - |

Just picked up this set from the yamaha site. The files are XOA and X3A. I was just given an MO8. I cannot figure out how to use this set. |

Hi, The .X0A file is for the Motif XS, while the .X3A file is for the Motif XF. The MO8 is not compatible with those files, but should be able to load a .W2V (Motif) or .W7V (Motif ES) All Voice file, if included in the voice set. - H - |
