My MOXF8 unfortunately fell from it’s stand (landing on its front rail) causing a moment of panic. I powered it on, and the display was blank, but the LEDs lit as expected and it played as usual. I bravely opened up the case and discovered that the ribbon cable that goes from the main board to the display became unplugged, so I plugged it back in, reassembled, powered up and voila, display lit up and everything looked normal. About 45-55 seconds after powering up I see a message saying “no response from the USB device” even though there is no USB drive in the connector. It appears that the message “USB device connecting” flashes just before the no response message, but it’s not on the screen long enough to confirm. I tried inserting a known good USB drive (the one with my backups), but the keyboard won’t recognize it (or any other USB drive). I now have no way to create backups, load samples, or load any previous files. I have confirmed that the “to host” USB port DOES function properly so it seems unlikely that the problem is not in the USB circuit board. I did re-open the case and made sure there are no loose connections or cables, and there seems to be no physical damage to the any of the circuit boards. So the question is - has anyone ever had a problem like this? Any ideas why the synth would think there is a USB present when there isn’t? As much as I’d like to do a factory reset, without the USB functioning I’d have no way to reload my previous setups. Other than this USB problem, everything seems to be functioning normally. If the only solution is to send it to Yamaha for repair, I might as well look for a good used MOFX8. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. |
