Still trying to get my head around this.  Hard to do until I can actually play a montage but..,.,

Are the motion sequencer and a full midi sequencer mutually exclusive?

Was the midi sequencer functionality reduced because of cost and to make room for the motion sequencer functionality?  Or was the assumption that
most musicians who are serious about midi sequencing and editing will use a DAW and that the Montage only needs a primitive midi sequencer?

From what I’m reading motion sequences can’t really be edited like a midi sequence?

Will it make sense to have both these keyboards?

Hello,

From what I read and understood, the motion sequencer has nothing to do with a sequencer (known from the Motif XF).
However, it doesn’t mean there is no way to work with MIDI sequences.

The Montage manual (page 39) says:

You can record MIDI data as Songs on this instrument itself or record your performance (audio data) on a USB flash memory
device plugged into the MONTAGE.

MIDI Recording
This instrument features a Performance Recorder (built-in
multi Track sequencer) for recording your keyboard
performance as MIDI data. This function allows you to
instantly store your phrase which comes to your mind. You
can create full, complex multi-instrument arrangements and
complete Songs, using DAW.

But what is a bit confusing to me, is:

Track
This is a memory location on the sequencer where your
musical performances (made up of MIDI events) are stored.
The MONTAGE provides 16 tracks, which correspond to the
16 Mixing Parts.

Usually a track is a MIDI channel.
We have 16 MIDI channels which means 16 tracks.
The manual says 16 tracks correspond to 16 mixing parts.
If by mixing parts they mean Performances, then it should be correct.
Because one Performance contains up to 8 parts.
In the Motif XF the 4 parts of a Performance were sent in 1 MIDI channel.

On the Montage there are only performances. Either a “single part” performance or a “multiple part” performance up to 16. A single part performance would be a single MIDI track and a multi-part performance would have how ever many tracks that the performance has parts.

I thought a performance in Montage could have 16 parts (voices) but only the first 8 or less would have SSS feature operative. They did say in one demo that all the internal preset Montage performances only went up to 8 but that you can build up to as many as 16.

On Montage you can have a one part performance or up to a 16 part performance as I understood it.

What I don’t think you can have anymore is a single multi-part voice or part. Such as a single voice comprised of a AWM2 and FMX. This now becomes a 2-part performance with the AWM2 and the FMX layered together and it consumes 2 of the 16 track channels. Is this correct?

So do you think is it possible to loop a recorded track in the performance recorder of the Montage?

So do you think is it possible to loop a recorded track in the performance recorder of the Montage?

And then what? trigger that loop as a part of another performance or motion sequence, etc.?

I thought about something very simple, something “a la looper” style: playing live let`s say Part 1 and make play Part 2 recorded notes.
