I’ve got a Motif Classic 8 and trying to use the remote control feature with Cubase 7 but having difficulties.  Do I need to have the latest firmware installed on the keyboard for this to work?  If so, I’m assuming the only way to install the latest firmware is via SMC and a SMC reader?

I think SMC is the only way to go, yes. I believe (it’s been awhile!) that you need to make sure there’s nothing else on the SM card except for the OS.

What “difficulties” are you having?  The Remote Mode setup in the Classic and ES is a bit more complicated than in later models. 

You may not need to update the firmware...have you checked to see if you have the latest?

I can’t get the remote feature to work. I don’t have the latest firmware installed on the Classic, I think I’ve got 1.60. I haven’t used the Classic 8 for quite a while and I wanted the 88 weighted keys so I decided to take it out of its case. My XF and KX8 remote feature were easy to use once the extensions were installed. Under the device setup there isn’t an option for the Motif 8, as there is one for the XF and KX. I also tried to use the generic controller option to no avail. Before I go out to buy a SMC reader, I want to make sure the updated firmware is the missing link I need to make the remote feature operational.
