What would cause songs loaded from my SMC to change tempo suddenly while playing? Do I need to record a new Tempo Track over them to fix it? Thanks!

Look at the existing Tempo Track first!

Nothing but a Tempo Change message… Which is why you were instructed to look at the events in your TEMPO Track. The SMC has nothing to do with your tempo change. It does not have the ability to decide tempos…
From SONG mode
Press [EDIT]
Press [F4] TR SEL (Track Select)
This button will toggle between the three track types: normal track1-16, Scene Track, Tempo Track.
When the Motif is set to internal clock (MIDI SYNC = internal) it follows the commands entered on the Tempo Track.

Hi helpers,
I got rid of all the tempo data in the Tempo Track, and it still does it. The song changes tempo abruptly, like from from 120 to 176 bpm. Is there any other solution? Thanks, Tom.

Hi guys and/or gals. ;-)
This one has gone a little cold. I’m still getting the tempo changes after trying the posted remedies. Thanks!

Please take a picture or just report what information is on the TEMPO TRACK. You know how to get to the tempo track to view its information - that is posted above in this thread.

What events are listed on the TEMPO TRACK?
Come on work with us - and we’ll work with you…

From the main SONG screen press [EDIT]
Press [F4] TR SEL (TRACK SELECT) twice
This will switch you from a numbered TRACK to the SCENE TRACK and to the TEMPO TRACK.

When you see TEMPO (or TMP) on the top line you are looking at the EVENT LIST of the TEMPO TRACK.

What do you see in the screen?

The SONG Tempo track will look similar to the body of this screen shot:
Where the numbers on the left are the Measure:Beat:Clock pulse - location of the event, and the TEMPO appears to the nearest tenth of a beat per minute.

Hi Bad,
I will do my best to work with you, and supply you with usable info. I will check the Tempo Track again, but I thought I cleared it. Thanks, Phil.

Okay, without knowing everything about this machine, this is what I can add; The tempo doesn’t randomly change when I start creating a NEW song. It’s only on songs that I load from card. Even when I put the cursor over the tempo, and turn the data wheel, the tempo display jumps around. It’s extremely frustrating. Thanks! Tom.

I re-installed the OS (v1.90; is there a later version?)
PROBLEM STILL OCCURS.

I saved/loaded to/from a differed card.
PROBLEM STILL OCCURS.

BadMister,
I’ve given you all the information I know of. Sorry if it’s not enough.

If nobody has any other solutions, please let me know. Thanks!
Tom

And I’ve already given you the solution.

It’s only on songs that I load from card.

Because the author of the file you are loading has Tempo Change events in the track data, or the file data is corrupt.

One more possibility you might want to check. I have found that on my Classic, if you have the knob control functions active on the top line, which is PAN, CHORUS, REVERB, TEMPO, and the Tempo pot is not centered at 12:00 o’clock, the tempo can jump to where ever the knob is pointing. It will record this into the sequencer. I have to keep that pot at 12;00 o’clock when not being used. It is intermittent, but it does it on both of my Classic’s.

Ever since I started using a DAW in 2014, I only use the Motif once in a while to stay current with it, and it is still a very fun instrument, but just today, I finally realized from all your help, that it was the Tempo Knob that solved the problem. Thanks to all of you! Over and out. :-)
