Hi Folks,
I am trying to figure out how to advance thru ARPS 1-6 using the Footswitch. I have looked through the OM, the Reference Manual, The Data List and also through this forum. I can’t find the CC Number I need to use to do this. I can Change Programs with the footswitch and I can turn the ARP on and off, but I can’t figure out how to cycle through them. Has anyone accomplished this or is it even possible. I also went through the entire Discovering the Yamaha MOX CD. Phil does a great job explaining the ARP section and setting up the different pedals, but obviously he is not going to be able to go through every CC, and I would not expect that either.

Thanks,
Vin52

The option to use a footswitch to change arps was only ever included in the OS for the Motif Racks. For whatever reason, Yamaha chose to not include it for the keyboards.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that I was able to do this on my MOX, but then realized it was my Kronos that I was able to do that with. Too bad it’s not available, although not such a great deal.
I still love my MOXF-8 regardless of this minor oversight.

If you have a way to send SysEx messages, the Arp can be selected that way. Here are the necessary messages for various modes:
F0 43 10 7F 1C 00 30 30 00 dd F7 Performance Common
F0 43 10 7F 1C 00 36 30 00 dd F7 Song/Pattern Common
F0 43 10 7F 1C 00 40 30 00 dd F7 Normal Voice Common
F0 43 10 7F 1C 00 46 30 00 dd F7 Drum Voice Common
Where dd = 00~05 (SF1~SF6)

A MIDI Solutions Footswitch Controller can be programmed to toggle between two messages. Of course that isn’t sufficient to step through six Arps, but maybe MIDI Solutions or another supplier has something that will.

As can the Behringer FCB1010 - but unless you want most of your switches used only for a sysex command (ie one for each arp), it didn’t work all that well.

This was canvassed at Motifator around the time the XS rack was released IIRC.

I find a good work-around, is to re-order the arps for your performance, and then simply use the footswitch to change them as you move through a song.

I don’t know what the original goal was, but if useful the proper SysEx for Arp selection can be inserted in sequences at appropriate points.

Yes agreed, when using midi files, however it is not quite as simple when playing a performance live. As in controlling it dynamically directly from live playing on the keyboard and using the SF buttons.

Hey Folks,
Thanks for the info, but like I said this was not something that I absolutely had to have. I setup my Footswitch to be used as a Sustenuto pedal and I can switch ARPS manually. Not a big deal for me. I mainly play in Voice Mode anyway, so this was just something different to do with the FSW for me, not something that I had to have. But thanks for the info, and maybe this could be helpful to another user as well.

Thanks,
Vin52
