Before I dig into the thousands of arps in my Motif XS again I wonder if anyone can help me to create a tremolo for a mandolin voice (or vibraphone, marimba,...)
I do not know if the word tremolo is exact here. I mean a fast up and down movement where the same note (string) is triggered each time. This means that there is an attack for each trigger.
Do I have to build the arp myself then ?

Are you using the Motif XS Editor Standalone/VST?
I went to the arpeggio field and typed “trill” and found the following:

Thanks for this fast reply.
I have Mac platform and unfortunately only on another location Windows XP.
In the meanwhile I’ve tried these examples, but as you said, not very usefull for mandolin. The CPrc’s are irregular (not the same note lengths).
Thanks anyway |

Sorry, I was in an airport (between flights) when I searched for those so I could not try them out. The CONTROLLER ones are not for note data, they send CONTROLLER data. You have to set the Arpeggio KEY MODE parameter to “DIRECT”. Direct allows the Voice you are playing to be heard and the arp applies the CONTROLLER data to what you are playing. But you must have KEY MODE = DIRECT for these to work. The others I’m sure can be used for string instruments even though they are in the Chromatic Percussion (mallet) area and are trills performed on mallet instruments. The Motif XS Editor Standalone/VST is for Windows or Mac… so no excuses… ;-) download it, it will make editing and finding things a bit easier, to be sure. Why do you think it is only for Windows? no matter… There is a version for Windows and there is a version for Mac! Go to the official Yamaha download site and get it
Select your country
The items available for your synth will appear… Look for MAC version… 1.6.0 is current. There are libraries that have these types of things, for example, this one is excellent: DCP Motif XS Voice Library: Renaissance and Folk Instruments for Yamaha Motif XS |

I’m not by my file data base but I think one of the free files like inspiration in a flash or the DCP library may have a mandolin. If you don’t get a definitive I’ll pull them up tomorrow |

Again from memory I believe you can load a single voice from inspiration in a flash (without Melas tools). You have to load the applicable sample to FL1 or FL2. Otherwise it’s in volatile memory and will not save. You should be able to do a FILE ....Load Voice and when you select the bank where your mandolin voice is, make sure you direct the sample to your board. Hopefully one of the gurus will chime in. I have done this with many individual voices. Good luck |
