Before I dig into the thousands of arps in my Motif XS again I wonder if anyone can help me to create a tremolo for a mandolin voice (or vibraphone, marimba,...)

I do not know if the word tremolo is exact here. I mean a fast up and down movement where the same note (string) is triggered each time. This means that there is an attack for each trigger.
By searching in this forum I found a lot of answers via LFO and INS Effect, but this will not do it I believe. The Arpeggio’s should help me better, but I only found one : nr 1375.
This one triggers the note each time, but always with the same velocity which results in a repetition
gun effect…

Do I have to build the arp myself then ?
Someone who has experience ?
Thanks

Are you using the Motif XS Editor Standalone/VST?
If so searching through the arpeggios is a whole lot easier

I went to the arpeggio field and typed “trill” and found the following:
Those in the Chromatic Percussion Category are probably useful
Those in the Controller Category may be interesting for “direct” use (not so much mandolin)

Thanks for this fast reply.
Motif XS Editor Standalone/VST exists only for windows ?

I have Mac platform and unfortunately only on another location Windows XP.

In the meanwhile I’ve tried these examples, but as you said, not very usefull for mandolin. The CPrc’s are irregular (not the same note lengths).
For the Cntr I do not know if I use them in the right way : I move the pitchbend, but no big changes ...

Thanks anyway

Sorry, I was in an airport (between flights) when I searched for those so I could not try them out. The CONTROLLER ones are not for note data, they send CONTROLLER data. You have to set the Arpeggio KEY MODE parameter to “DIRECT”. Direct allows the Voice you are playing to be heard and the arp applies the CONTROLLER data to what you are playing. But you must have KEY MODE = DIRECT for these to work.

The others I’m sure can be used for string instruments even though they are in the Chromatic Percussion (mallet) area and are trills performed on mallet instruments.

The Motif XS Editor Standalone/VST is for Windows or Mac… so no excuses… ;-) download it, it will make editing and finding things a bit easier, to be sure. Why do you think it is only for Windows?

no matter… There is a version for Windows and there is a version for Mac!

Go to the official Yamaha download site and get it

http://download.yamaha.com

Select your country
Type in the MODEL NAME: Motif XS
When the SEARCH RESULTS appear verify: Motif XS

The items available for your synth will appear… Look for MAC version… 1.6.0 is current.

There are libraries that have these types of things, for example, this one is excellent:

DCP Motif XS Voice Library: Renaissance and Folk Instruments for Yamaha Motif XS

But you did’nt :-)
This post is a bit old but I had the same task. I took arp7386 (MA_Up Oct1). If just playing two notes it sounds like the style a mandoline is playing.
But I did’nt find a voice called mondoline in my motif xf.
So I took the nylon-guitar “Barcelona”.
Does someone know where to find a mandoline voice?

Thanks

I’m not by my file data base but I think one of the free files like inspiration in a flash or the DCP library may have a mandolin. If you don’t get a definitive I’ll pull them up tomorrow

Thank you richie :-)
In the list to the file “inspiration in a flash” I’ve found several mandolines.
But here appears an old task for me.
In every Userbank of my motif-xf I’ve already sounds which are bought and which I need. So I would like to have a solution how I can transfer one sound. I’m using the “John Melas tools”. I’ve imported the file into the librarian by using the option “import native file”.
Then I tried to transfer one sound by double-clicking on the sound. This seemed to work. But no sound appears by pressing any key of my motif. So I realized that the elements were using wavebanks of FL1. For me it seems to be necessary to transfer the whole x3a-file.
So I’ve my back to the wall. At the moment........there’s no way.

Again from memory I believe you can load a single voice from inspiration in a flash (without Melas tools).  You have to load the applicable sample to FL1 or FL2.  Otherwise it’s in volatile memory and will not save.

You should be able to do a FILE ....Load Voice and when you select the bank where your mandolin voice is, make sure you direct the sample to your board.

Hopefully one of the gurus will chime in.  I have done this with many individual voices.  Good luck
