I have a ton of custome voices and performances for S90Es, and I need to do some road gigs with only S90XS’s available. Has anyone loaded S90ES voices and performances into a S90XS?  Does it work? Any issues?  Thanks!!!!

There is Voice compatibility between the S90 XS/S70 XS and the S90 ES. The newer XS series has the ability to make substitutions via a “look-up” table to find an appropriate Waveform and Voice when reading the ES file. As to PERFORMANCES that is not automatic… Here’s why…

As you know, or probably know, a PERFORMANCE can be made up of Preset and/or USER Voices… As many as four placed in the four PARTS of the PERFORMANCE.

The actual Voice location is what is referenced. so you must ensure that the Voices are in the correct location in order to be accessed. For example, if the S90 ES Performance uses the following four Oice locations:

USER 1, (A01)
USER 1, (A02)
USER 1, (A03)
UDR, (A14)

... As long as you place those Voices in those exact USER locations of the S90 XS/S70 XS everything will sound as it should. If you do not, then whatever Voices are currently in those locations will be used, and this could be a disaster.

If the PERFORMANCES reference PRESET VOICES, they will not work, because the PRESET Banks of the two series are different. Say your ES has a Performance that uses the Piano located at Preset 1, A01 well, that piano is different in the XS series. So Performances using Preset Voices will not translate properly, after all if the ES and XS were exactly the same they’d be called the same thing.

Hope that helps.
