I have a Yamaha MOTIF-Rack ES Tone Generator, Roland Quad-Capture and M-Audio Axiom MIDI Controller. What I am trying to accomplish, I want to use my M-Audio Axiom MIDI Controller to play the sounds coming from the Yamaha MOTIF-Rack ES Tone Generator, and record the sounds/instruments into Pro Tools. Have 1 Track be Bass, 1 Track for String ect. What’s the best way to do this? Use Aux Track with MIDI Track or? I’m not quite sure how to do this, This is what I have done so far. 1. I have the MIDI OUT from the M-Audio Axiom MIDI controller going into the back of the Yamaha MOTIF-Rack ES Tone Generator MIDI IN. 2. I have the MIDI OUT going into the Roland Quad-Capture’s MIDI IN. 3. I have 2 cables going from the Roland Quad-Capture 1L-OUTPUT-2R into the back of the Yamaha MOTIF-Rack ES Tone Generator’s R L/MONO OUTPUT. 4. USB Cable connected from the Roland Quad-Capture to PC. I’m very new with this setup and I would appreciate any help Thank you Image Attachments

Your question is really about how to use the compoents you have. If you want to use the Motif-Rack ES as your MIDI interface, you can connect the MIDI OUT of your keyboard controller to the MIDI IN of the Motif-Rack ES. But then you must use the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver and the Rack ES to MIDI IN/OUT = USB Connect teh Motif-Rack ES to your computer via a USB cable. Your keyboard will send MIDI data to the computer, merged with the Rack ES, on “Yamaha Motif-R ES-1” (Port 1) You can find the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver for your computer through the following link:
Select your country
Within you DAW (Pro Tools) make sure you select the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver as one of your MIDI input sources. Continue to connect the AUDIO outputs of Rack ES to your audio interface and follow its instructions for setup.
When you want your keyboard to play/trigger/control set the MIDI IN of a MIDI track to “Yamaha Motif-R ES-1”
