When I go on websites they tell me what the rack has: voices, samples, presets, bla bla. But no website ever tell me what it is? and what does it do? When do I need to get one?

A Motif-Rack is discontinued. 2002-2004
The Motif-Rack ES is discontinued 2004-2008
The current unit is the Motif-Rack XS 2008-present

The rest of your question is not really clear: “what it is? and what does it do? When do I need to get one?”
