Hi,

I’m about to upgrade from my Motif XS7 to a Motif XF7 in the very near future.

I was wondering what software tools do sample library developers use to create sample libraries and programs for the Motif XF ?

Is there any application that is dedicated to organize samples (.wav and .AIFF, edit the samples (Looping, crossfading, trimming,..etc), and then create, and edit the keymaps, waveforms, and produce a voice program for Motif XF, all in one integrated application ?  If this type of application does not currently exist, I would love to see something of this nature developed for the Motif XF.

I’m interested in knowing what application/s sample developers for the Motif XF are currently using to create sample based programs for the Motif XF ?

ps.

I’m not sure if this topic belongs in this section of the forum, or in the ‘All about sampling’ section, but I thought this might be a bit of a general question related to the new Motif XF.

Thanks,

Muziksculp

As the developer of Motif Waveform Editor

http://www.jmelas.gr/motif/wave.php

I can confirm that this application is being used be several
sound designers producing Motif Sound Libraries!

We were in contact with Yamaha during the development process
and Yamaha defined several of the features of the program and
it does most the things you are looking for!

Hi John,

Thanks for the very useful info.

Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for, and I’m very glad to know that it already exists. I look forward to try to do some custom sampling when I get my Motif XF7 using these Motif XF editing tools.

Cheers,
Muziksculp

I have a bunch of wave files I want to use to create a voice in the Motif XF.

Can I use this program to create XF Voices from raw wave files, can I load the wave files into this program to create the voice and then export the completed voice to the XF to play as a completed Voice?

Absolutely, the program supports importing of WAV files to create
Motif Waveforms. It also has a tiny Voice Editor in which you can
assign your user Waveforms to Voice Elements of an existing Voice (the
next version will also support creating an Initialized Voice). But of
course for full Voice Editing (envelopes, filters, effects etc) you need
to use Yamaha’s Voice Editor or my Voice Editor.

I’ve just started sampling one of my old analog synths and made waveforms for the Motif XF with John Melas’ Waveform Editor. It worked fine so far.
To make playable voices you’ll have to use additional software for sampling and looping (if necessary).
You can hear some examples here.

I was trying the demo version, unfortunately I can not drag & drop wav, just open them as the old-school way...too bad. Also is not possible to drag & drop “waveforms” inside the program to create an easy “Keybank”, the piano roll on top is little as an ant in my balcony, but the idea is very cool. Some bugs but with style. Thanks

What additional software would you need to turn it into a playable Voice?

Don’t John Melas’ sell all the software needed to do that?

Can his softwares create a Voice in the program and then save it to a USB thumb drive to then import to XF from the thumb drive?

Dear John

Is any of this here possible?

Thanks

For the sampling part there are different software applications available (for instance Samplerobot, Chickensystems software). I tried SamplerobotDemo but at the end I used what I already had:
Extreme Sample Converter (ESC) for the sampling part and WaveLab for the finetuning of the loops since this had to be done by hand with such sounds.

With the Waveform Editor from John Melas you can import the correctly prepared samples (keybanks) and make waveforms for the Motif. Further finetuning can be done with the capabilities of the sound engine of the Motif after loading the waveforms and creating voices.

I guess this might be a question regarding the John Melas program…

Can the program create Voices and then save them to a USB drive. So they can be loaded into the XF from the USB drive if that is possible.

The program can edit Voices. You can assign your User Waveforms
to a Voice and save the result as an All Voice file (X0V or X3V), save
it to USB and load it to Motif!

Both Waveform List and Keybank List support drag and drop of audio files!
Where did you try to drop them? =)
