Hi everyone,

I am debating in my mind whether I should buy the Yamaha Pocketrak 2G or whether I should not.

I have the classic Motif 8, 88keys keyboard. Is the Yamaha Pocketrak 2G compatible with my MO 8?  How well does everyone like it. Any regrets?
If the Yamaha Pocketrak 2G is not compatible with my MO 8 keyboard, what do you recommend me to use?

Thanks,

Yes, of course it is “compatible”. I have one. No regrets. Very portable and quality is good enough for demos. You can record your songs from Motifs stereo out to Pocketrak as a 16bit wave file or MP3. In newer Motifs you can use Pocketrak as a USB memory stick.

2G is discontinued, so the price is right, if you still find one. Newer models might be even better, though.

Thanks tuquoque for your reply.
What do you mean the 2G is discontinued?
I found online at the Musician’s Friend the Yamaha POCKETRAK 2G Pocket Recorder on sale for $129.00.  Is that a good buy and is this the device that is discontinued or is this the updated pocket recorder?

I just found the new Yamaha C24 Pocketrak Recorder, what is the difference? microSD memory card space and what else. I see it is available for $199.99. I am tight on $$$, so would I be ok working with the 2G pocket recorder or is this new recorder really that much more amazing?

I have the 2G and love it. I paid $350 when it came out 2 years ago...for $129 it’s a very sweet deal.

The C24 can record at higher resolution and you can swap memory cards to extend record time (2G has fixed 2GB of RAM). If I was buying today I’d probably spend the extra $70.

It has been a very long year since I last replied. I only have the classic Motif 8 and really am considering the Pocketrak 2G. If I cannot directly use the usb connector to my motif since it is not a newer keyboard. How do you connect the pocketrak to the motif classic?  Apologies for the dumb question. Is there a newer pocketrak or anything anyone else uses to record directly from their old classic keyboard to mp3 format?

Regards,
db

Thanks all for your replies. After speaking to a few folks at Guitar City and Sam Ash in Las Vegas, I am being swayed to get an interface since my classic Motif has no usb plug in. It sounds like the pocketrack would not work for me. Does everyone agree?
