Hi guys I recently bought a PLG-100-DX instead of a 150 by mistake, but after reading about its limitations (some of which i don’t really understand other than patch EP 1 doesn’t load) i went ahead with it anyway as it was a good price. I have a Motif Classic 6. Anyway, to my knowledge this is the same as a DX7IID - meaning 16-bit and low/no noise, unlike the original DX7. When using it with headphones, there’s quite a lot of digital noise similar to using a bit crusher. I’ve attached 3 samples: 1) A bit of noodling with a patch on the DX board with the velocity curve set to ‘DX7’: http://www.roughproductions.co.uk/dx7/PLG150DX-DXVelCurve.mp3 2) Same noodling with vel curve set to ‘normal’: http://www.roughproductions.co.uk/dx7/PLG150DX-NormalVelCurve.mp3 3) Same again but with a native Motif patch called ‘MaxTine’: http://www.roughproductions.co.uk/dx7/Motif-MaxTine.mp3 Obviously the MaxTines Motif patch is louder, but is this level of noise normal for the DX board? You might need headphones to be able to hear the noise - you don’t listen to the whole thing to hear it, i’m not playing anything particularly riveting! Thanks! P.S: I have the volume slider of my output of my Motif on ‘full’, and my ‘L&R;’ gain set to +12db. AssignLGain and AssignRGain gain are left at 0 as i’m only using the main outputs. |

Background noise is a indication of a problem. Just so you know: background noise is “negligible” - that is a spec. If you can hear it, you are either Superman or you have an issue. Make sure your MIC/LINE parameter is set to LINE |

Hey, thanks for your reply. What do you think, from listening to the samples i posted? I can hear the bit-reduction noise when i have my headphones on. |
