A bit of shameless promo here - the new issue of Keyboard magazine (September) features a four-page article about programming for the Michael Jackson Tour, written by yours truly. I also covered programming the bass sound for “Billie Jean” in a separate article on page 46, and there are diagrams of the two keyboard rigs that I did on page 72. Plenty of mention about the Motif XS’s that we used. There’s also an article by Michael Boddicker, programmer for earlier Jackson albums and tours, explaining how they got signature sounds for the original records including “Thriller”. |

Dave, Our band is wanting to do Billie Jean and I wanted to ask you if you actually explain in the Keyboard magazine article what you used to produce the bass sound for the song. My guess is no so can you tell me what I can use to get that gnarly bass sound. I am using the XS6. |
