I’ve successfully installed and have an operational editor via studio manager on an older mac. It creates .YSM files by following the linked directions listed above. If I can’t gain success creating an .X0E soon, I’ll install a more current editor on a newer machine.

Check that, figured it out. I’ll soon attach a zip of the same thing 5pin did, hopefully it will work.

Hi there,
I’ve downloaded the ZIP with the .X0E and .prf files. The .X0E loads on both my full version of the Melas Rack XS editor and the demo version of the Melas XS editor. However:

--I cannot open the .prf file in the Performance Editor as the Melas program says that an XS must be connected.

Sorry, it worked for me, but I had my XS connected. I didn’t realize the Melas software required that, just to import the data.

benonemusic -

--After I load the .X0E file in both the Rack XS and XS editors, I do not see any Multi data. All the fields are blank. In addition, the performance data is blank in the XS editor.

I’m confused. There no Multis in the Motif XS, there are Songs and Patterns. The Yamaha Editors don’t do Performances.

benonemusic -

Let me know if I’m missing something, or if there is anything else I can do. I am grateful for your efforts.

Ben

Since I don’t have a Rack XS, I can’t be certain of the following…
With the Rack XS on, and set up, run the Yamaha Rack XS Editor. Choose a Multi location on the Rack. ”Open” the .X0E file. That should bring up the Auto Sync display. “Current” should be “on”, and the direction should be PC > MOTIF-RACK XS. Click “Start”.

Hopefully that will load the data to the Multi location previously selected. STORE anything you want to keep.

If that doesn’t work, let us know. I then hope another Rack XS user will be able to provide better information.

Sorry I just noticed you already provided an .X0E, hopefully he can fire it up. It’s been a good exercise for me getting re-aquainted with an editor, perhaps this time it will take hold.

I got a nice note from John Melas. He confirmed that the reason the XS Performance Editor does not show the data is not because of the demo mode but the “offline” mode. He said his editors cannot work if they are not connected to the synth. In the meantime, I’ve been enjoying his editors for the Rack XS. They are excellent!

Sorry about that--I was of course mistaken--I’m still learning!

I will try this tonight. Thanks again to you and Stone.

No apologies needed. In fact, I was glad that you offered to be involved. Let’s see if Ben has success with the .X0E I posted, then determine where to go from there.

I am going through this series of steps now. Crucially, I am opening the X0E file, rather than importing it.

Oh, yes, this appears to work! Are the proper voices for Alone:
1) PR1>007 Tacky
2) US1>079 Alone DX
3) PR1>017 Old Blues

The performance name is given as “Initialized Perform”

The multi sounds like the patch from the Heart song.

Thank you!

It’s natural to assume that “Import” would be correct, that’s why I emphasized “Open”.

You’re welcome. Yes, those are the correct Voices for “Alone”.

I don’t typically use the Editor for saving Song mixes based on Performances, so I’m not sure what the naming situation is. I copied the “Alone” Performance to a Song Mixing, and named the Song “Alone” - I don’t know if there’s anything more I can do. It might be that’s just the way the Rack handles things with .X0E files. If anyone who has a Rack XS knows about this, please chime in. Of course, the Multi could just be named on the Rack XS.

So, all we have to do is create 23 more .X0E files.  :-)

Probably the rest of the files should be sent via attachment to a PM, rather than being posted.

Stone, are you seeing this and wanting to be further involved?

Before you go through this process...I’m unfortunately having the same freezing problem that I had with the voices in the Yamaha Rack XS editor.

Is there any way to open the files in the Melas editor?

Yes. I am seeing this.

I can proceed, my old Mac with it’s limited editor couldn’t capture the mixings/songs. I’m moving on to another machine that can. I get it, can do it, might be slow. I likely can have it done by tomorrow night.

Can the 23/24 files be combined in a folder then zipped and sent, or would it be 23/24 zipped individual files?

If you’re asking about opening the .X0E Editor files, I’m not aware of the Melas software recognizing them.

Help me understand what’s happening. You had previously listed the correct Voices for “Alone”, so something was working properly. Did the Multi ever load to the Rack XS?

Hi Stone,

As I just mentioned on my last post, my Rack XS froze after installing the Multi, so there may be an issue, and it may not be worth going through this process, unless 5pinDIN or another user can suggest a solution.

Ben

Were you able to STORE the Multi?
