Does anyone know of a screen shot capturing software that is FREE, that I can use to copy the picture of what is on my computer screen at the time I see it?
I’m having troubles with installing drivers on my computer, and need to be able to show the error message that keeps poping up when I attempt this installation.

TIA BROTHERN

Re: I need to copy what I see

Not sure if you knew this, but Windows has this functionality built in.

If you press ALT+PRINT_SCRN, it will put a copy of the ACTIVE WINDOW into your Clipboard.

If you press SHIFT+PRINT_SCRN, it will put a copy of your entire DESKTOP into your Clipboard.

Then, you can go into Microsoft Paint (also included with windows) and do EDIT/PASTE.

and voila… there you go.  You can then crop out what you want (if you need to) and save the file as GIF/JPG/or whatever…

I don’t know if the attachment still works on XP, but it is a utility
to make a movie of your screen.
Used to make demo’s of programs, but it can also record what happened during installation.

Re: I need to copy what I see

OK, I have it now, but still don’t quite get what it does.
My wife is getting an HD video camera, to help me make youtube videos of me messing around in the studio, so that I can share with the good folks here.
Will this software you’ve just linked me to help me out in this matter Sir?

Re: I need to copy what I see

Camstudio makes an .avi file of what happens on the entire screen.
That means that:
1) it is limited by disk space,
2) the ‘movie’ will be top quality of your screen.
3) it has to ‘hide’ itself while running.
