Hey guys I just bought an ES8 from Sound Devices in Sydney, who were extremely helpful.

I’m am wondering what hard cases do you guys have for your motif.

After searching through the forum I’ve come across http://www.roadcase.com.au which is the Blue Cat Case Company. I’m quite happy with their price, I could have A custom made, Professional shipping case [exceeds ATA Cat 300 Clause 1 and 11 standards], for under $600

has anyone had any dealings with these guys? any reasons not to deal with them?
or where did you guys get your cases and for how much?

I’m looking to buy ASAP and these guys look like the best deal and quality

>> 600 $
You might get one custom-built here for a little bit more than half that price. OK, it has to be shipped from the other side of the world, but it can’t be *that* expensive?

PS: Don’t believe a word about “to be carried by one person”. Hulk Hogan, maybe. (I bought it for my S80, 5th floor, no elevator).

Re: Hard Case

Hi there,

i bought a VISA-ATA Case for my S90 (88 Keys) from these guys a year ago and paid A$506 (including postage to Melbourne city)…

there are no reasons not to trade with these guys. But if you are seriously considering putting the case on a flight I’d make sure you go for the toughest options available. I have not yet shipped my case anywhere on a plane but I am not entirely convinced that the big panels are capable of withstanding a reall brutal knocking about. sigh, we’ll see.

Oh, you do know that we’re talking in Australian dollars (nentwig) that’s like US$450.

But nentwig is absolutely right about the weight - they are FRIGGIN heavy.

In fact, I’d like to ask people out there - when you travel by plane with your S90/Motif in a HARD CASE - how the hell do you afford to check it in as luggage?

Am flying international with my S90 at the end of the year and am cringing at the thought of being charged a fortune for excess weight!

j.

Re: Hard Case

Yes, I converted to australian $, list price is 199 .
They *will* charge a fortune for excess weight, I once paid for my VK7 in a similar case (26 kg), that was almost the price of the case. But I did get away with it some other times on the same line, strange.
And they knocked it around so badly that the rivets from the case pushed through the foam and left marks on the wood. I got hard foam padding for later cases (that one had soft foam), but it makes it even heavier.

Re: Hard Case

You might have to remove the foam from the case and pack the S90 with some of the clothes you’re taking with you on the trip....

Heh Heh… I don’t know what came over me. Now back to the booze, loud music and tyre smoke.

Imagine trying to convince airport security that the socks stuffed into the expansion bays aren’t filled with recreational chemicals.

Re: Hard Case

Hey guys!
I can now answer my original questions
I just received my hard case for my ES8 from the Blue Cat Case Company http://www.roadcase.com.au
I’m very happy with it, it appears much stronger than other cases I have used previously from other companies. I expected a bit of flex in the big panels, but there is none, it is solid!
My ES8 fits in well, and the outer layer of mine I chose to have done in aluminium laminate instead of just black and it looks awesome!
Tony was very helpful and friendly to deal with

First impressions - Great product!

and now my ES8 will finally be getting out into the world… :-)
