Mix It Up & Motifate It!

A Remix and Production contest for Motif users and models of all persuasions

The Plot

1. Download the file that contains 5 Motif Patterns. Each Pattern comprises the raw material for a new song. Each Pattern contains around 16 parts.

2. Choose a Pattern you like and voice it (i.e. assign suitable new sounds to each track or part).

3. Now compose (however you like - write something, remix something, use preset loops…) at least one new Pattern Section.

4. Turn your Patterns into a finished sounding song. Use Pattern Chain, or simply record it in real time into your DAW and convert it to an MP3.

5. Post your MP3 to the web, and send a link to: MNM@motifator.com (if you don't have your own web space you can use one of the many free hosts like www.4shared.com)

Musical Style

The 5 Motif Patterns all come from one of our Twiddly.Bits collections called Modular Madness . This is a synth-orientated library so all the patterns are kind of dancey/new-agey. If you can turn one into something completely new go for it! Any style of music will be acceptable. Listen to a demo here.

What we're looking for

In a word, creativity. We're looking for imagination, good use of effects, creative use of the Motif, anything that makes this raw material come alive and stand out.

What's in it for me?

Basically, kudos and cash.

Entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts (that's us) here at KEYFAX NewMedia. We're completely biased, our tastes range from raging dance music to hip hop to punk to Journey (actually, Kristen has left but one or two of us are still a bit rockist, truth be told), and all of us play or compose music so we're highly judgmental and totally mean and heartless when it comes to listening to other people's music.

However, if your song pleases the appointed quorum above all others (ie. you win!) , you will:

Receive a check in the amount $500.00 Agree to be interviewed as a new ‘Motifated People' person. Allow your track to be posted on Motifator.com without us having to pay you royalties or anything else silly like that. Be known throughout the Motif community as a thoroughly talented and splendid musician.

We will not:

Completely appropriate your song, however. You retain all rights to it.
Exploit you any more than the ways outlined above.
Require anyone to purchase anything for the purpose of entering this contest.
Sulk if no-one bothers to enter the contest. (Actually we will, but we needed something else to put here.
