Back in the day I was pretty proficient with the ES.

Wow! That is so cool being able to use a computer keyboard to type in names and other functions. Does the XS automatically regonize the computer keyboard or are there settings to deal with? I have an old usb hub x 4 from an XP computer. Will that work?

There’s nothing to set up - I’ve used several different USB ASCII keyboards and all were properly recognized. It’s also likely that the hub you have will work. Mine is passive (non-powered) type, which just means a device drawing a lot of current shouldn’t be attached to it. A powered hub should also work.

I believe mine is powered. It lit up unless it drew power from the computer. I have to find it.

What’s really cool is I’ve been a little paranoid about buttons failing. I used the ES so much that my yes button got a little finicky. I had to press it more than once sometimes. Also the jog wheel developed some resistance after a while. It still worked but didn’t spin quite as easily as when it was new.

Well duh! Yea that worked. You must forgive me. I’m a little slow. I haven’t used my ES for over 10 years. Just getting back into it with the XS. Besides being an old geezer.

We seem to be talking past each other.  :-)
(In the literal, not figurative, sense.)

Glad you got it.

By the way, chances are good that I’m older than you are.

Maybe, maybe not.

True. OK, I’ll go first…

Year I was born:

Not that it’s a contest.  ;-)

Two time zones to the east of you, and I’d rather not narrow it down any further.

If you don’t have the info about the OS updates…

As I mentioned in the thread I previously linked to, the “Y” and “N” keys are Yes/No on the ASCII keyboard (not documented in the PDF).

I’m originally from the east coast. Another question...I was loading a bunch of voices from a usb drive. Then I started to move them around within the XS to different user locations by using the store function. Then all of a sudden, when I hit store, nothing happened. I couldn’t figure out what changed after I already did this with a dozen voices. I noticed the program button was lit. I’m not sure if it was previously. I have no idea what the program button is for. Could that be why it stopped allowing me to store user voices to other user voice locations?

The PROGRAM button is normally lit, and when it is the Bank, Group, and Number buttons can be used to select a Voice, Performance, Song/Pattern, or Master location. That button won’t be lit when other functions, such as CATEGORY SEARCH, TRACK, etc., are chosen.

Without further information it’s not obvious why STORE wouldn’t work. If it’s being caused by a problem with the button switch itself, STORE can be accessed by using an ASCII keyboard with the [Pause/Break] key.

I set up the computer keyboard to the XS. I LOVE IT!! Now I need to try my hub. It is a powered one. This will make it SO covienient. Instead of reaching over my XS to change USB drives, it will be sitting right next to me.

I set up my usb hub plugging it into the XS first. To my surprise, the power light came on without me connecting the power adapter. It works fine. My question is could this be both a passive and powered hub? Should I leave it as passive or plug in the power cord?
