Have not found a way to use my moxf6 as a simple, 16 part multitimbral sound engine- to let my music software find and play these parts(Voices)on the moxf, using an old Cakewalk Music Creator 2003 seq program. This should be a simple handshake between my Cakewalk sequencer and the moxf, but it wont work. Also, Why can’t the moxf play a simple .smf file? Load the smf, put moxf in general midi mode-yet it will not perform correctly, nor will it automatically chose the correct gm sounds/voices. Even when I load the .smf file into the moxf, it still will not work correctly. |

It’s not clear (to me) what you’re referring to as “general midi mode”. The MOXF has two Voice banks of GM-compatible instruments, Normal and Drum. Those, however, are not per-se “modes”.
Here are a couple of threads that address proper playback of GM files on the MOX…
You might consider getting the the “MOXF In ‘N’ Out” video, which has a section addressing GM and SMFs.

Thanks, 5pinDIN. Appreciate the quick reply. So, can you address my first topic; using the moxf as a 16 part sound module, receiving commands from computer music software? Thanks. |

You’re welcome.

Once a Song location is properly initialized for GM…
While I don’t have a MOX/MOXF, my Motif XS and XF work fine with externally sequenced GM once a Song location is properly initialized. I have no doubt that your MOXF will do the same when correctly set up. |
