Can someone tell me why the song and pattern files I created on my MO6 are not recognized by my MO8. I searched the forum for an answer and couldn’t find one. Is there a utility that will convert the files so they can be read by the MO8?

Files created on a MO6 should be fully compatible with a MO8. Your subject is “W2p files created on MO6 not recognized by MO8”. However, W2P (and the companion W3P) Pattern files are not from a MO6/MO8, they’re from a Classic Motif. A MO6/MO8 can load certain data from Classic Motif files - Voices from W2A, W2V, and W2E files - but not others. Pattern files from a MO6/MO8 (or Motif ES) have the W7P/W8P extensions. See page 214 of the MO Owner’s Manual for details. |

Thanks for the response 5pin. You’re right! They were created on a classic Motif 6 and I failed to make the distinction. So the manual says “....W2A,.W2V, and .W2E files using the Motif also can be loaded to the MO as the file types below.” My MO8 is not recognizing the motif 6 files on my thumb drive. Do I need to rename the file names to .W7A, W7V, etc? |

You’re welcome.

The MO can load only Voices from the Motif W2A/W2V/W2E files, and doing that requires “TYPE” to be set to “Voice"/"AllVoice"/Voice Editor” respectively. Other Types such as Patterns and Songs can’t be loaded - they’re incompatible - and Voice-containing files won’t be seen with the other Type settings. Unfortunately, renaming the files won’t accomplish anything useful. There is a possible workaround - Song data saved from the Motif as an SMF could be loaded to the MO. |
