Hey there Motif heads,

I struggling with sampling drum hits (one-shots) from my MPC into my XF. I get 90% of the way there, but when I strike the key… silence.

Here was my process:

-Initialize a USER DR voice
-Record kick sample from MPC, assigned to key C0
-Save KICK Waveform to FL1 (using COPY JOB function)
-Hit Edit button. In EDIT-KEY menu point Wave Number to new KICK sample in FL1

When I play key C0 now however, i get nothing. Is there a setting I am missing?

I have successfully sampled waveforms in regular USER voice mode (synth leads, etc.), but this my first attempt sampling drums directly into the XF and it seems more complicated.

Hope everyone is safely quarantined with lots of synths. Thanks in advance for any help!

Perhaps the problem is in how the sample was assigned to key C0.

Starting from the USER DR bank, this should work…
1) Initialize either a complete User Drum Voice or a single key in the kit (which could be C0).
2) Press [INTEGRATED SAMPLING]
3) Select an unused Waveform number
4) Press [F6]Rec
5) For Voice under “Sample Destination”, select “UDR” and the number (1~32) of the initialized kit
6) Select the Drum Key to which you want the sample assigned (C0 in your case)
7) Press [F6]Standby, and so on.

Note that although the sample gets assigned to the Drum Key selected in step #6, it will actually be on C3 (but that can be ignored). The proper sample in the USR Waveform bank will already be pointed to, so there’s no need to edit the key for that purpose.

When the Waveform is copied from the USR bank to a flash module, the key parameters will be updated to point there.

I hope that helps. I suspect the above is slightly different than what you were doing, but it likely isn’t any more steps.

(Not under quarantine - healthy so far, but minimizing contact with others in an attempt to stay that way. Best of luck to all of you.)

Thanks so much for the quick response! I must have overlooked that step.

You’re welcome.

I must have overlooked that step.

Unfortunately, it’s easy to miss. See (10) Voice and (11) Drum Key on page 123 of the XF Reference Manual.
