If you haven’t yet heard of VCV Rack, it is a free virtual modular synthesizer environment that recently hit version 1.0 after a few years in development. It includes a set of MIDI interface modules that allow for the interaction between modules and external hardware such as the Motif. With this, all manner of interesting possibilities emerge such as modulating MIDI CC’s with complex LFOs and sequencers.

Here’s a somewhat complex example where I trigger notes as well as modulate effects on 15 channels simultaneously, using several instances of Mutable Instruments’ “Marbles” module in order to create a lovely generative ambient patch:
