You have posted about your observation three times. Since there have been no other replies, it appears that nobody reading your posts knows the answer. I suggest that you contact Yamaha Support in your country, and ask them about what you are experiencing.

Contact information is on the last page of the Owner’s Manual. However, I believe this is more up to date:

I hope Yamaha keeps the fw16e driver current for a long, long time.

Not that it’s important, but…
there’s the current thread
and this one: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/478180/
and a similar issue here: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/475945/

Hopefully Yamaha will have some answers.

I hope Yamaha keeps the fw16e driver current for a long, long time.

That would be nice. However, in addition to drivers for any new computer OS, there’s also the question of FireWire port availability on new computers.

Second-hand I’ve heard & read one can successfully get from firewire 400 to thunderbolt 1, maybe 2 via adapters/cables. … And there’re more adapters from TB1/2 to get to TB3.

Yes, the Apple Thunderbolt/FireWire adapter is known to work.

Also yes, but the question is whether the adapters “play nice” with each other.

See http://www.macworld.com/article/3136583/macbook-accessories/macbook-pro-thunderbolt-3-adapter-guide-how-to-connect-an-iphone-display-hard-drive-and-more.html#firewire

That might cover the current gear, but what about the next generation?
(The question is rhetorical.)

I have the hunch that FW400 devices will work with the current USB-C port/Thunderbolt 3 protocol equipped on the late 2016 MacBook Pro.

Currently/soon available paths may be:
1. FW400 to FW800 cable -> FW800 to TB 1/2 adapter -> TB 1/2 to TB 3 adapter. Complicated, but if it works, that would be super.
2. FW400 to FW800 cable -> OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock
Pricey. One less connection, but a more complicated intermediary.

It would be so awesome if someone (Apple, Belkin, OWC) would make a FW800 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter.

What seems to be reliable is FW400 to FW800 cable. And, hopefully there’s enough incentive for 3rd parties (if not also Apple) to retain these bridges to FW800.

Then the FW16E will work for another good long while, I’d think. (And our FW400 audio interfaces!)

At the moment, this is all theoretical as my music computer has a FW400 port! Bless its aging heart, :)

Apple is dropping the TB3 to TB2 adapter price, at least for a while…

i just came across that same “news” item, & posted it in another forum. … this is percolating in my mind because my music laptop is 8+ y/o, i really dig my digi 003, i’m slow to learn, and i’m considering a fw16e.

It would be helpful if someone could determine whether the Apple FW-TB and TB2-TB3 adapters can be coupled and work correctly.
