Connect your Roland MIDI out to ES MIDI in via standard 5pin MIDI cable.
On ES, go to Utility mode and under [F5] MIDI select following:
[SF3] SYNC
MIDI Sync to off
ClockOut to Off
[SF4] OTHER
MIDI IN/OUT to MIDI
Than go to Song mode / Mixing and select Motif voices on particular channels that you wish to play from Roland. In order to play selected voice(s), you should be on the same MIDI channel on Roland that correspond to the MIDI channel of the voice in Motif mix.
