I don’t know if anyone mentioned this before, but I haven’t seen anything that makes me believe that the Montage can sample.  Can it?

We’ll know for sure very soon, but I expect that it can do sampling, since it has an A/D input.

Well, just because it has an input doesn’t mean it can sample.  The Korg Minilogue has an audio input, but it certainly can’t sample.  I just noticed from the photos that there isn’t any “Integrated Sampling” button on the Montage like there is on the Motif XF.

I thought NOT having an onboard seq would LOWER the price, apparently it works the other way around

I guess the new thing about Montage is smart real-time control of the FM engine. FM can be very expressive and dynamic but it’s all about handling the complexity (88 algos, 8 ops is insane...). If they found a user friendly solution for this it could be interesting.

There are no Mixing, Job, Master buttons - can’t wait to see how both architecture/philosophy and UI have changed.

When I started with my MOXF8 in 2014 I had some hard time getting around with all those different modes - voice, performance, master, mixing, song, pattern…

Although I have to acknoledge its not a bad interface once you get used to it, it might be a good thing if all this is replaced by one single mode, with 16 parts.

The name montage itselves indicates it is a workstation.....

I think if you dont use any of the fancy motion stuff in the motion sequencer, it just turns into a normal sequencer..

So far I’m leaning towards a “meh”, but the sax sound made me suspect that there might be improvements to the acoustic articulations, who knows, they might be auto-triggered like in Tyros. Fingers crossed for Articulation Element Modeling, but there’s little chance it will be there

The specs dont say much…

However, there is a basic sequencer…

Definately a workstation… However the fact that it says only 16 channels polyphony (internal) indicates that it might integrate very well with VSTs running in Cubase…

The specs dont say much…

For me they do:

The Montage’s weight and size is comparable to Motif size. I had hoped that it would be a little more reduced in size and weight, especially as it seems to be performance-oriented from the general specs.

As you mentioned, there is a sequencer in it (and sequencer details are listed). We did not know that for sure from the previous info, as well as the exact Wave-ROM size (5,67GB), Performance and Live Set memory, number of (simultaneous) arps etc.

Regards, :)

Unfortunately Sampler is not listed, but who knows, maybe they will.

Thanks for posting those specs. Little by little the picture is filling in.

What I see…
There’s a sequencer with similar capacity to the XF one.
Song mode.
“Sequence Format   MONTAGE original format”

What I don’t see…
Indication of Pattern mode.
Indication of Motif sequence format compatibility
Indication of a sampler

However, I suspect (hope?) those specs are incomplete.

I know that the Montage will sound great, and I know that a lot of Yamaha enthusiast will love it, but honestly I’m a little disappointed.  The specs alone just aren’t any where near what I thought they would be.  I still can’t wait to see the official video, but I’m definitely underwhelmed by everything that’s been leaked so far.
