So I installed two 512 mb of sampling memory totalling to 1 gb of RAM. At first the screen was going blank when I turned the motif on so I moved the slots around and now when I hit integrated sampling the motif just freezes. What’s going on?

Not all DIMMs are compatible with Motifs. See page 289 of the ES Owner’s Manual for related information. (It was later determined that compatible 512MB DIMMs work in the ES, so the stated 256MB maximum size isn’t correct.)

You think that’s what’s causing it to freeze?

I think you should run diagnostic tests 23 and 24:

Be sure to save an “All” file first if you have data you care about.

What does NG mean for test #23? For test #24 it just keeps saying “Now executing...”

The memory failed the test. NG = No Good.

Test 23 is a simple Read/Write test. Sometimes marginal memory will pass that, but more in-depth testing in 24 can find problems. For 1GB, test 24 can take close to 2 hours to run. However, since test 23 failed, there’s not much point in running 24.

Just wanted to post the same problem and came across this topic.
I had for many years installed 2 256mb dimm(total 512mb) in my motif es.
I had removed them twice (just to make sure i have them on rented motif es on tour over seas, but never used them as the rented motifs had dimm installed eventually)
Anyway now when i installed them again in my motif es,the samples load but they sound bizzar and randomly pitched, and when i press the “integreted sampling” button the motif es freezes.
I run the dimm test and it says NG which i suspect means no good and now this topic confirms that.
Is there any known procedure to remedy this or only buying new dimm memories .?

Just a quick update.
After trying several times removing and installing the dimm memories, i cleand them and the motif memory socket with contact cleaner and now its all good )) im not sure if its the cleaning or just the dimm sitting now properly after i pushed them hard until heard “click"sound
