on my MOXF6 can I use the USB and Midi at the same time, I want to use an external controller via the midi in and still use the PC editor via USB on my computer to setup up the sounds.

Thanks

It is not clear to me what you are ultimately trying to accomplish, but see if This Thread helps you at all.

There will no doubt be others here more familiar with what it is you would like to accomplish.

Yes, the Yamaha Editor can have ports assigned so that Port 3 input (what’s connected to the 5-pin MIDI-In) is routed to control the MOXF, while the MOXF is in USB mode.

No DAW involved, the editor is just use to setup up sounds in pattern mode via USB, the MOXF is being control via an external hardware sequencer plug in via midi cable.

No DAW should be required, but there may still be a problem. With at least the Rack-XS and XF Editors, the Thru function doesn’t seem to work correctly - Program Change events are apparently filtered out.

Perhaps it works correctly with the MOXF Editor. You could try this:

From the Editor’s File menu, click “Setup”
In the Setup screen, turn Detail “On”
Select MOXF6/MOXF8-3 for Port 1 MIDI In
Select MOXF6/MOXF8-1 for Port 1 MIDI Out
Select MOXF6/MOXF8-4 for Port 4 MIDI In
Select MOXF6/MOXF8-4 for Port 4 MIDI Out
Click “OK”
At the lower right of the Editor main screen, turn Thru “On”

If PC events don’t get through, you might try contacting Yamaha and ask them about it.

EDIT: A slight rewording of something I posted previously in another thread:
If needed, a workaround would be to run MIDI-OX along with the Editor - set MIDI-OX up for Port 3 input. In order to avoid note doubling, turn Thru “Off” on the Editor. That works with my XF, and it should work with the MOXF and its Editor as well.
