Export a song as MIDI file from MOXF8
Import a MIDI file into MOXF8

What I am trying to accomplish is to
1. Create songs in MOXF8
2. Save and export them as MIDI files
3. Edit them in Finale
4. Import them back into MOXF8

Sometimes, I feel it’s easier for me to use Finale as a scratchpad to come up with ideas. I want to import these ideas into MOXF8.

I am a novice when it comes to MIDI technology, so pardon my ignorance.

While you can certainly do what you suggest, I am wondering whether you are considering some of the unintended consequences of doing a bunch of work on a SONG in your MOXF, and then exporting as a SMF MIDI file.

Once you do that, a lot of the stuff you did on the keyboard is going to be stripped off.

Take a look at This Thread for a discussion of what it means when you don’t stay within the proprietary file system when you SAVE your SONGS.

Saving as a SMF is not just a convenient and harmless way to move SONGS in and out...it really kind of “dumbs down” the file so that other machines and software can digest it in a “standard” format. 

You can lose a lot of parameter tweaks and changes going that route.
