Hello all, 1. Is there a way to have my XF Performances available on a rack-XS if the Performances are simple splits/layers of internal voices from Preset banks? I’m not using any arps. I was thinking if I converted the Performances to Songs/Mixings in XF I could bring them directly over. But then realized, the XS would have to be able to read XF all files… So, are any of you using Melas’ software Tools and know which ones I would need and what the basic workflow would be to accomplish this? If 1 is possible, then… 2. As a workaround to the 128 Multi limit, would it be possible to have voices/channels 1-4 respond to one MIDI channel and 5-8 respond to another, and so on, so that I could potentially store 4 splits/layers in one Multi, available at different times over four different MIDI channels? I realize I’d be limited choosing Perfs that shared similar effects, but wanted to float the idea out there to see what you all thought… Any ideas? Thanks |

Before going any further with this, are you aware that the Rack-XS doesn’t have a sequencer built in? |

Great point, I received info from John Melas. The Rack-XS Librarian software will be able to port over my Preset & User Voices (as long as they’re referencing internal ROM samples), and Mixes from an XF Library File. So both the XF and Rack-XS Librarians are needed. But I have to first move the Performances into Mixes on the XF. I’m not home at the moment, but I seem to remember that there’s a Job that does this on XF? Then there’s just the question (2 above) of accessing 4 groups of 4 voices via four MIDI channels on Rack-XS… |

Yes, there’s a Mixing mode Copy Job that will do that.

Each of the 16 Parts of a Multi can have the MIDI Receive Channel independently set, so groups of 4 with the same channel setting shouldn’t be a problem. |

Yeah, I assumed the MIDI channels would work until I read the manual. What threw me off and what I’m still a little shady on, is why the manual takes such time explaining that copy Performance part in Mixings section, it seems to suggest you could only have 4 tracks play on 1 MIDI channel, and you have to turn on some global setting first...? From what I could make of it, that Job does a more complete job of copying the Performance, including the inserts and such so that the Mixing sounds like the Performance..? Perhaps you can help clarify if I’m wrong. Can u think of any snags I may run into or things to be aware of during the process of moving Performances into Mixings? Thanks! |

Four Performances each with four Parts can be copied to a Mixing. See the left-hand column on page 197 of the XF Reference Manual for details of how that’s done, default MIDI channels, etc. One limitation is the total number of Insertion Effects - a maximum of eight Parts can have them active at any one time. You’d have to determine if the chosen Performances would be tolerant of that. Also, of course, System Effects and other global settings would apply to all Parts of the Mixing. |
