Hi all, This is probably a pretty noob or basic question, but I just purchased a MOXF and am pretty new to the synthesizer/workstation world, so I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I am wondering if it is possible that some sound packs can be loaded onto the MOXF, without the expansion flash memory, whether it be loading the sounds onto the MOXF internal memory from a USB or somehow accessing them direct from a USB key. Essentially, I am wondering if I can load the Lead Sounds pack found on Synthonia without the expansion flash memory. I have read through the forums, including BadMisters excellent post (http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/moxf_flash_board) and I think I grasped most of it, but it is still not totally clear to me if some sound packs can be loaded onto the MOXF. Most sound packs probably include new samples, but if they are only modified stock voices, then are these loadable in a user bank? I hope this makes sense, and again, I apologize if it didn’t. Either way, it should be an education. Thanks alot in advance! |

Some third party libraries contain new sample data. These libraries require a Flash Board to house and utilize that data. Some third party libraries do not contain new sample data. They utilize the native sample data of the machine...and do NOT require a Flash Board be installed. Since the Library you posted the link to is being marketed for the MOX, it must not contain new sample data...the MOX has no ability to LOAD new sample data, because it cannot accept a Flash Board. However, the description does not explicitly say this, so it will be up to you to verify whether new sample data is part of the file. Most 3rd party libraries state clearly whether or not new sample data must be LOADED to an optional Flash Board for the library to be functional (And ALL of them should clearly state that). |

Although I have no personal experience with it, I’d be leery of buying that “Pack”. For example, the page you linked says…
BTW, s4k/space4keys has an “interesting” reputation. Here’s a past thread from the Korg Forums site:
There are trustworthy sources of MOX/MOXF libraries, including ones that don’t require an optional flash module. Oh, and welcome to the forum. |

Thanks guys! Those answered my questions and more, I really appreciate the insight. Maybe I’ll just dig into the MOXF and see what I can come up with. Or opt for the leads pack from here at motifator.com. Thanks again! |

Yes, the Shop here at Motifator is a great source for MOXF compatible libraries. Also, they have many that do not require new sample data be LOADED...and they state that is the case. |

Awesome. This is all starting to make sense now. Great and very helpful replies!!
Next question:
1) I have installed an expansion flash card, say 1GB. 2) I bought more than three sound packs, lets say 4, and all 4 packs are set up the same in that the voices all load to user bank 3 from an ALL file (I can redirect these to user bank 1 or user bank 2 I believe). None of these sound packs include sample data and all load to a user bank using onboard MOXF rom waveforms/samples. Q: Would I be only able to load three of the 4 sound packs to my MOXF at a given time, even with the flash memory installed? |

Short answer is yes...because the Flash Board never contains VOICES, only sample data. Longer answer: You can pick and choose individual VOICES to LOAD, rather than entire BANKS. Thus, you can construct your own BANKS out of individual VOICES from many Libraries. It would be a rare VOICE Library in which every single one of the VOICES is a must-have-all-the-time favorite! |
