Hello all,

I have the following problem:
Yesterday I tried to load a MIDI song into the Motif XF.
After a couple of tries it worked.
However, the first beat of the song sounds weird.
(Not sure how to describe it better.)

My idea was that the reason can be there are too many lines starting at 001:1:0000.
From my Yamaha DJX-II I remember that the first notes of the patterns start at 002:1:0000.
(Probably to avoid any start problems.)

This is my MIDI file - all the lines starting at 0001:1:0000:

001:1:0000 Tempo=131
001:1:0000 7 - Bank Select Msb=63
001:1:0000 7 - Bank Select Lsb=7
001:1:0000 7 - 063007012 Program Change=12
001:1:0000 6 - Bank Select Msb=63
001:1:0000 6 - Bank Select Lsb=2
001:1:0000 6 - 063002020 Program Change=20
001:1:0000 5 - Bank Select Msb=63
001:1:0000 5 - Bank Select Lsb=32
001:1:0000 5 - 063032000 Program Change=0
001:1:0000 4 - Bank Select Msb=63
001:1:0000 4 - Bank Select Lsb=32
001:1:0000 4 - 063032006 Program Change=6
001:1:0000 3 - Bank Select Msb=63
001:1:0000 3 - Bank Select Lsb=32
001:1:0000 3 - 063032011 Program Change=11
001:1:0000 2 - Bank Select Msb=63
001:1:0000 2 - Bank Select Lsb=32
001:1:0000 2 - 063032003 Program Change=3
001:1:0000 1 - Bank Select Msb=63
001:1:0000 1 - Bank Select Lsb=32
001:1:0000 1 - 063032011 Program Change=11
001:1:0000 Song Track Name=Testsong001
001:1:0000 Time Signature=4/4
001:1:0000 1 - 063032011 Note=B0 Velocity: 95 Length : 480
001:1:0000 4 - 063032006 Note=D3 Velocity: 76 Length : 480
001:1:0000 5 - 063032000 Note=A2 Velocity: 102 Length : 3840
001:1:0000 7 - 063007012 Note=D3 Velocity: 102 Length : 2880
001:1:0000 7 - 063007012 Note=B2 Velocity: 102 Length : 2880
001:1:0000 7 - 063007012 Note=G2 Velocity: 102 Length : 2880
001:1:0000 7 - 063007012 Note=E2 Velocity: 102 Length : 2880
001:1:0000 7 - 063007012 Main Volume=41
001:1:0000 9 - Note=G2 Velocity: 80 Length : 500

Maybe there is a limit which I reached?
I mean if I set the voices directly on the Motif XF (and not inside of the MIDI file), I assume this information will be written down as well.

Best regards

Assuming that MIDI event timing is the cause of “the first beat of the song sounds weird"…

You could begin playing the file on the XF, immediately stop it, and store the sequence. Then edit each track and remove Bank Select and Program Change events occurring at 001:01:000.

If you want those events to remain as track data, then you could insert a blank measure at the beginning of the sequence, and move them to that measure, so that the Note-on events begin at measure 002.

Hello,

Okay, yesterday I tried it again.
I loaded the MIDI file with no MSB/LSB/PC information.
(In that case all tracks had the FullGrandPiano sound.)
Then I changed the tracks with the Motif XF and stored the song.
It starts without problems and everything is fine.
I think for me there is no use to write it in the MIDI data.

Thank you very much!

Best regards

I’m glad you were able to get the song to play correctly.
