hi, im not sure which to get a moxf or a roland fa, one thing i really want to be able to do is have a drum pattern playing and be able to hit a button and have breaks and variations. i know the roland can do this, i read in this forum that the moxf can do this too by using one of the arps, but i cant find any videos on youtube showing this being done, is it quite usable? are the results good? cheers Rick |

Both instruments would probably suit your purpose just fine and your decision should really be based on how much you like the general sound and feel of one versus the other. But to answer your question, the MOXF can indeed play ‘fills.’ All such automata are actually ‘arpeggios’ that can be switched through in real time (set at least one of a group of five drum arpeggios/patterns you can have per Voice or Performance at any one time as a ‘fill’). There’s a ton of these arpeggios/patterns to choose from plus you can create your own. Arpeggios must be physically switched by hand (as opposed to by foot/pedal). Not sure if the Roland is similarly operated. Neither the MOXF - nor the Roland FA, I believe - are ‘auto accompaniment’ instruments per se. They are workstations; i.e. synthesizers that also offer a slew of recording and realtime controllable backings and parameters. If you mainly want a keyboard as a backing device you might want to look at the Tyros or Roland BK or E series. |
