Hi guys :) Before I ask my final questions, let me tell you what my MOXF says when I press File and Load. On the left is says ALL (which is fine because that’s what I want to do). In the block on the right, starting at the top of the List it says:
NEWDIR01
Next is NEWDIR02
Next is NEWDIR
Next is 286 .X6A
Next is 3KMGD.X6A
Next is ORIGBACK.X6A
Lastly is ORIGBAK2.X6A
I know that NEWDIR, 286 .X6A, 3KMGD.X6A, ORIGBACK.X6A and ORIGBAK2.X6A contain backups I stored today and in the past, and I know if I press Execute the File will load. So my first question is what makes NEWDIR different in that it’s the only File that when I press Enter, the Backup Name I made today is shown in the block on the right? Next, I have (3) or (4) Original Performances on each File but would like to consolidate those Original Performances down to just (1) File. How do I do that? |

Seems you have inadvertently been making FOLDERS. First we will explain how the MOXF FILE system works then how it impacts what you are experiencing. The MOXF File Management system is CONTEXT SENSITIVE. What this means to you is it is selective about what it shows you when you look through data on a USB drive. This is very much how your computer works with items on its storage devices, although you may not have equated this to your MOXF quite yet. The File Name has an extension - three characters that follow the ‘dot’ that tell the system everything it needs to know about the data contained in that file. A .X6A file extension identifies this as an ALL data Library File for a Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8.
This is again, just like your computer, where you have an option to hide the extensions. Sometimes we forget that these are in place on our computers: (Mac people are used to the extensions being hidden, that’s for geeks and it reminds them too much of DOS, and having to think and know about such things - Mac folks you know who you are)
Just like on your computer, you can see FOLDERS which can contain a bunch of Files. The MOXF will always show FOLDERS because they *could* contain a File for the MOXF. If you highlight a FOLDER and press ENTER to enter that folder, if it contains a .X6A File, for example. the MOXF will show you this file. If however, there was a PDF of the Reference Manual in that folder, the MOXF will not even show that file. Because .PDF files cannot be read by the MOXF (it’s just like most of us, we don’t read the Reference Manual either) So Context sensitivity means it will only show relevant stuff, relevant files.
Only Files that can be “opened” or “loaded” directly in the currently selected FILE TYPE will be shown, and the “EXEC” above [SF1] will only appear when it should… when you have satisfied the search qualifications: TYPE Context Sensitivity means, because this is a file of a type that the MOXF can actually deal with, and only then you can see it. The EXEC (execute) command only appears above [SF1] when you have actually highlighted a FILE by name that can actually be directly “loaded” by the TYPE indicated.
The NEWDIR, NEWDIR01, NEWDIR02, etc., etc. appear as the default NAMES every time you create a New Folder. This is the same as clicking “NEW FOLDER” on your computer.
FOLDERS can appear empty because 1) they truly contain nothing, or 2) they contain nothing that the MOXF can use. You will notice that if a FOLDER contains data (even if you cannot see the file name), you will not be able to DELETE it. This is a Fail Safe, and like your computer, just because the current context does not show the contents of the Folder does not mean it is truly empty - so you will not be able to delete it BY MISTAKE. If a Folder is truly empty you will be able to delete it, of course.
Create and STORE you original PERFORMANCES in three separate USER Bank locations in your MOXF’s internal memory
Press [FILE]
Press [ENTER] to continue An ALL data file will contain all your User Voices, all your Performances, all your Songs, all your Patterns, all your User Arpeggios, all your Mix Templates, your Waveform list and all your UTILITY mode settings. If you additionally marked the box “with Samples” it will additionally save the actual audio Samples (including the links of your Waveform List to the actual audio samples). Notice if you will, that in my instructions to create an ALL data file I did not create a NEWDIR… you only need to when you want to place the data in a FOLDER. If you don’t, it simply places the data in the ROOT DIRECTORY of the USB Drive. If you are going to create FOLDERS then if follows that you should learn to use them and navigate them. The ROOT directory is the default director when you insert and mount any drive. The ROOT directory same as on your computer! If you explore your USB drive with your computer you will get a deeper understanding of what you see when you view that same USB drive through the MOXF window. Trust me on this… |

I don’t understand that instruction :) Let’s say I load a File that has (1) Performance and I Store it in a User bank. I then go to another File that has (2) Original Performances on it. I’ll load that File but wont it overwrite the Performances/Files I had just loaded/stored on the previous Performance before? If so, then I would “lose” that Performance for immediate access and would only have access to the File/Performances of the newly loaded File. Let me clarify what I ultimately want to do. I will eventually have at least 100+ Original Performances (which my originals songs are based on). I want to be able to load the original MOXF Performances (or XF Performance that I have saved in the past to the usb drive) into the MOXF, change/customize them for my original song needs and then store them to the usb drive and label the File “ORIGINLS”. I’ll then load the original Factory Performances again into the MOXF, change them and store them. Is there a way to have a Master File that my originals will go into without wiping out the existing originals that are in that File? If so, then I can do my “flip flopping” of Factory and original Performances. |

Only if you use the Load ALL function
Highlight your second Performance and target an adjacent location in the current internal banks. Rinse and repeat for the third Performance.
Troubleshooting:
If necessary, you will need to look at your Performance, and manually restore the individual Voices to their original locations. For example, if your Performance uses a Voice from USER 2:002(A02) and a different Voice than you expect currently occupies this internal location. You must set the Load TYPE = voice

Explained perfectly :) Thanks (again), Jerry |
