Hi,

I am using some times Pizzicato Professional software to compose and score my music beside Cubase 7.5

I like to connect this software, like a DAW, to Yamaha MOX6 for MIDI recording and also use MOX as a Tone Generator.

I am able to score it by playing the MOX, however finding difficulty in assigning the MOX as a multi timbre tone generator. GM sounds can be assigned, however other sounds are not able to assigned to corresponding channels.

Please advice!

It appears that this is the software being referred to:
http://www.arpegemusic.com/

I personally have no idea how it addresses Bank Select and Program Change of an external MIDI device. It would seem that might be explained in the software’s documentation, or possibly require discussion with Arpege Music.

From the MOX side of things, page 104 of the Data List has information in that regard.

If you don’t already have it, the MOX Data List in PDF form::

Yes, this is the software application as a DAW.

This link, gives the MIDI position of the DAW
http://www.arpegemusic.com/manual36/EN080.htm#J1

This link, gives how real time recording is done
http://www.arpegemusic.com/manual36/EN430.htm#J4

And finally how the programs are assigned in XG (Yamaha family) is
http://www.arpegemusic.com/manual36/EN410.htm#J2

After score writing with Yamaha MOX6 in SONG mode with MIXING, I am not able to play the assigned PRESET voices from MOX. It changes abruptly to GM mode.

I tried contacting the DAW distributor for help and this is the answer they are giving..

If you uncheck the AC, then indeed you can force Pizzicato
to use the channels of your choice.  However, you are responsible then to assign
the right channels on the side of the synthesizer.  I unfortunately do not know the
specificities of your synth.  The fact of playing different tones on each channel depends
on how your synthesizer is set up.  If it is not GM compatible, then you can choose
the “MODELE-1” choice in the MIDI output port dialog box, as it is just a series of
numbers and you can then use these numbers in the Instruments window to select
the sound you want from your synthesizer.

It seems your software is sending a GM reset command. See this support article, which should help you understand what that does:

Although I don’t know Pizzicato, the “MODELE-1” settings might allow you to use Bank Select and Program Change to play the sounds you want. If that’s the case, then the Data List information I referred you to could be helpful. You could ask the distributor if such selections can be made in the program.

5pinDIN,
Thank you very much.
I shall check your two suggestions and will see whether any one of them works or not!
I tried initially “MODELE-1” settings, however from MOX end the Program Change changes to a different voice when I play the recorded score from Pizzicato end.
