Is there a way to set up the Motif as a drum module via drum triggers on acoustic drums? If so, what do I need to buy. I have the Motif, and the acoustic drum kit. Thanks!

The Motif can respond to MIDI input.
Your drum triggers are basically contact microphones that output a voltage - you require a device that can take this voltage spike and turn it into an intelligible MIDI signal.

Yamaha make such devices, but they don’t have keyboards attached, believe it or not, they are designed specifically with drummers in mind. They even include Motif level sounds and kits on board. Both drum and synth sounds.

They are smaller more convenient, can even mount on your standard drum hardware!!!
You can even add custom samples, play keyboard type sounds, vocals, any and everything.

You want to look up what are called Drum Trigger Modules… Also called “drum brains”

DTX 500
DTX 700
DTX 900

The brain or module can be purchased separately and would be far better for what you are asking about.

Please visit the site… Explore a bit because such HYBRID (acoustic and electronic) kits are the current wave… Drummers realizing they are better than drum machines and can play any sound, literally any sound, from their acoustic kits with a trigger and a drum brain.

Here’s a link… The 500 series is where they start the 900 series is uber deluxe!

Explore the different series and watch the videos specifically about expanding / hybrid kits, etc…

Also take a look at the DTX-M12 which has 12 pad surfaces to which you can assign sounds you can plug your triggers into this device, but it also is a playable device.

The world of synthesizers for drummers is in full swing with DTX, check it out.
