Hello everybody,
I just decided to use my Motif XF with installed flashboard (1 GB) on stage for playing along to a stereo-wavefile in song-mode.
How do I “build” a song containing an imported midi-klick-track and an audio-backing-track, that have to be synchronized together? Many thanks in advance. Sakey |

Welcome to the Forum! For audio that is a WAV that you want to sync to the sequencer, you want to place that audio in a USER SAMPLE VOICE (Bank 63/50) or a MIX VOICE (Bank 63/60) so that you can use the sequencer to trigger and hold the note-on for the duration of the audio clip. You can import your audio directly to a PART while in the sequencer mode. It is very important that you ‘cue’ the start of the audio to a precise measure point. Measure 1, beat 1 would be the ideal (but we realize not all music begins on the downbeat - if yours does not, make sure you can identify the BEAT number which begins the audio). You need this because the Motif XF can calculate the TEMPO of your audio if you can tell it what a measure is… (more on this later). If you have already installed the audio on FLASH you can COPY it to SDRAM and edit it, then put it back when complete.
Placing your sampled audio into the SEQUENCER
This will import your long audio clip into a User Sample Voice.
Now if your sample is already in memory you can construct a Voice in the sequencer and select the Waveform from memory.
Now you can navigate to the ELEMENT’s OSCILLATOR page and select your WAVEFORM as this Voices sound source.
HOW TO DETERMINE THE TEMPO of an AUDIO CLIP
In the SAMPLE EDIT area of the XF, you will find that the END POINT is connected to the TEMPO, METER and MEASURE parameters (shown below): (sorry for the XS picture, all I had).
• Highlight the END POINT parameter
If, for example, you can set the START/END POINTS so that you have exactly one measure of the audio clip defined, set the MEASURE = 001:00 (that is 001 Measures and no extra Beats). The METER (or time signature is set to 4/4; adjust only if your clip is some other meter). Make note of the number of samples per measure as shown in the END POINT. Using the DATA WHEEL dial the TEMPO (counterclockwise) until the END POINT length returns to the exact value that indicates the Length defining one measure… you will be adjusting the tempo to the exact number of beats per minute of your audio clip. As you change the TEMPO you will see the END POINT value increase… when it reaches the precise value for the number of samples (and not one click more). This is the exact tempo of that audio clip within a tenth of a beat. Finally reset the END POINT to the END of your audio clip. (Failure to do so will restrict the playback to just the region set between START and END POINTS). |
