I find the experiments and comments interesting :)

My science side always enjoys such experiments even if it’s impossible to control/eliminate every variable.

If someone wants to spend some time on this, why not.  It’s a better use of time than say, getting drunk :)

Making music is fun too of course :)

+1

No matter what we do, we should always be open and capable of learning something new. We should not let familiarity stifle the self improvement we can/should all aspire to.

I solemnly swear that:

1) As my favorite mentor (Bad_Mister) has stated, in a blindfold test, you can not tell the difference between the two.

2) They sound identical to me as well and I don’t have to be blindfolded (but that reminds me of something I want my wife to do tonight :-).

3) If Bad_Mister and I (as well as you) have all lost our hearing, I’ll bet that when you put a MOTIF XF and a MOXF in a musical context (mixed in with a band/other instruments on a recording), they will be impossible to tell apart.

If you remember, I’ve been saying (including in reply to some of your questions) that the XF and MOXF should sound about the same. However, given the persistent comments from various people that they hear significant differences, I wanted to try to determine if there was any validity to those claims.

Thanks to those willing to participate, and I’m sorry if my curiosity is annoying/boring any of you. All I’ll say at this moment is that there do appear to be some differences, but they probably aren’t audible to most people who have typical human hearing. (Was that cryptic enough?  :-)  )

Hello buddy (and Happy Holidays to you)!

1) What people are saying they hear significant differences?
2) 5pinDIN NEVER annoys/bothers ANY of us (especially Jerry).
3) As far as the differences, what are you going to trust more, an appearance or your ears?
4) Are you saying Bad_Mister and me only have “typical human hearing”?

:-)

Good to hear from ya’ again!

Jerry

Yes there is people that are saying that there is differences.
I would not know since I never heard an XF in real life still I am sure there is differences.

The engine is the same then it should sound the same?
The price difference is not just for more knobs and options it,s also another D/A etc of course it will be slight differences.
either they are not satisfied with their buy of an MOXF or they are trolls.
trying to stir things up…

Keep it up, 5pinDIN - I am not sure you can prove em wrong
but I admire your determination:)

Hi MeMyselfAndI64!

1) Are most of the people saying there are differences owners of a XF only?
2) Are most of the people saying there are differences owners of the MOXF only?

I have no idea how they come to that conclusion...:)

I myself is very satisfied with my MOXF both with the sound and as an controller for my Module & DAW.

There is nothing that can compete in this price range.

I agree!

What I ESPECIALLY love about the MOXF is that:

1) I now have a 88 note keyboard that plays/feels great.
2) I now have a 88 note keyboard that weighs less than my XF7.
3) I now have a 88 note keyboard, that because of 1 & 2 above, I can carry easily (and is a pleasure to play) to my live gigs.
4) I now have a 88 note keyboard that I can save Performances/Voices from my XF7 to a usb stick and load them into my MOXF8.
5) I now have a 88 note keyboard that for my needs (songwriting/playing live/not caring about specs) sounds the same as my XF7.

I’m approaching the comparison differently than I had originally intended. I’ve decided to make it possible for those who say that they can - or cannot - hear a difference to determine that for themselves. This will definitely be an experiment, and not strictly “scientific”.

I’m uploading four zipped WAV files, named Xs’d Up A (B, C, and D), one each to this and the next three posts. There are differences, some subtle. I’d like those willing to participate to download and listen to all four files, then post and indicate which keyboard you think A, B, C, and D came from, and in what order you rate them, from most liked to least liked. Please also mention if you don’t hear a difference, or make other pertinent observations.

I’d suggest setting the listening level while playing one of the files, and not changing it when comparing the others.

Once there are enough evaluations (or sufficient time passes with too few brave souls having posted :-) ), I’ll let everyone know the source and other details for each of the WAVs.

No, not really any discernible differences here either. A couple (2+4) were perhaps slightly “flatter” (dynamics) but that may be just me :-)

Bottom line? I would be in the not really much difference at all camp.

Thanks to popsel2 and pax_eterna for participating.

How about evaluations from a few more of you? Please?
