On the MOXF6 with the expansion board I know you can download new sounds, but either through Yamaha or 3rd parties will one be able to download additional performances like the ones already loaded?

You don’t need the Flashboards in order to do anything with Performances - download, load or store. Performances are ‘just’ combinations of your Voices; arpeggio driven or not. So… ‘new’ Performances need to know what Voices are currently in your instrument. Provided you never edit or load a new Voice you can install new Performances (provided they are based on a virgin instrument too) to your heart’s desire. The Flash boards are offered as a means of housing your samples in order that you can access sample data without having to wait for such to load every time you have powered down (on a Motif XF) or load in new sample sets ‘at all’ on a MOXF.

Might be worth downloading the MOX instructional video and/or the XF Fully Loaded video just so you have things clear in your mind before getting too deep with the instrument.
