I am considering buying either a MOXF8 or a Motif XF7.  I realize
that with the XF7 I will be giving up the weighted action of the
MOXF8 for the semi-weighted of the XF7.

I am really only a hobbyist and only play at home, so I really
don’t need the advanced features of the XF7, however, the
better user interface would be nice.  Additionally, the XF7
has more performances, better build quality, sampling ability
and an extra flash slot.
The XF7 is about $1,500 more than the MOXF8.

I can afford the additional $1,500.  I just don’t want to spend
the extra money for features I will not use.  My concern is that
I don’t want to have buyer’s remorse and wish that I had gotten
the XF7.  Can you tell me what factors I should consider in
purchasing the XF7 over the MOXF8 ?

If cost is not a factor, if weight is not a factor, and if weighted vs. unweighted action is not a factor, then I’d take the XF7. Of course, for most people, one or more of those three things will be a significant issue, making the decision more difficult.

Other info that may help:

Weight and cost are not a factor, so I need to get to GC and
see if I can be happy with the XF’s semi-weighted action
compared to the MOXF’s weighted action.
Having said that, I got by fine for many years with my Korg
T2’s semi-weighted action.  A great 76 key workstation for
its time BTW.

I’ve got a Korg T3. It and boards such as the Korg M1 and Yamaha DX7, SY77, etc., used the Yamaha FS action. The FSX action found in the XF will feel a bit different than the FS in your T2, but I think you’d be satisfied with it.

fwiw the FS3 is quite playable - obviously key travel and “bounce/resistance” are different, but I found playing piano quite okay :-)

Good for EP’s too, and far better for organ than the fully weighted models.
