Hello,

1) For some reason, the Motif XS Editor VSTi does not give me the “Auto” option to recognize the Motif XS audio ports automatically. When I try to set it up manually, the port names from the VSTi are shown as “-1, -2, -3,...”.  The same thing is true when I open the “Device Setup” and select “Yamaha Steinberg FW” from “VST Audio System” on Cubase 7, the port system names are the same stated above (-1, -2, -3,...).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It all depends on what your system is and how you are connected to a computer, check out the links on the very detailed guidelines for setting up the equipment:
Windows:
- If you are connecting via USB with optional audio interface: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/motif_xf_usb_midi_quick_setup_guide_for_windows
- If you are connecting using the FW16E:

This is most likely because you have not downloaded and installed all the components necessary. What teaches Cubase the names of your Yamaha Motif XS is a bit of software code written by Yamaha for Steinberg called “the Motif XS Extensions for Steinberg” or the “Motif XS Extension”

http://download.yamaha.com

Current Motif XS Extension is version 1.6.1 for Mac OS X 5/15/2013
Download it, unzip it and install it. The next time you launch Cubase it will refer to the ports by their proper names (Main, FW, Asgn for audio sent toward the Motif XF, and Main L/R and FW1-FW14 for audio sent toward the computer).

If you had previously done this, and you RESET your settings, this could have caused them to disappear.

This document mentions the Studio Manager which I’ve been told is no longer part of the software setup.

Actually, the problem is caused by the fact that the OP probably updated to Maverick, and unfortunately all the software being used is not yet Maverick compatible. If you update your OS, it might be worth mentioning, particularly when issues arise.
Yamaha has already recommended that Mac users forego the Maverick update until testing and fixes are generated… Report due before the end of November.

While the FW driver is Maverick ready, the Extensions and the Editor are not (yet compatible). In the future you should hold off on updating your computer OS, if you are running music software (and it is important to you). You have to ask yourself if the benefits of being the first on the block with the new Mac OS is worth the incompatibilities caused by it.

I should have mentioned that my OS system had recognized my Motif prior to the update to Maverick :(.

So, I suppose I’ll have to wait until this is fix.  And yes, I’ve learned my lesson Bad_Mister.

Thanks everyone.
