So, with the MOXF now out is the Motif XF still relevant, with flash ram, the extra arps and new perfomances on the moxf ? I’m asking this exclusively for studio work. |

I tried both before I bought my XF. I had a MOX6 before.
I opted for the XF for build quality. |

Remaining Motif XF advantages:
* sampling
and probably some I missed. Though the MOXF has some unique features of its own as well. |

For studio work, you say… Here is where the item “connectivity” really comes into play… And how important it is or should I say “how relevant” it is will depend on the user and the level they aspire to work at… (Excellent list provided above, by anotherscott, by the way)
If you are asking is there still a customer there - the answer is undoubtedly, YES.
I’ve assisted people in small home studios (nothing more than a corner of their basement), to full fledge recording facilities. I say that to point out “studio work” covers a lot of territory. The amount and types of “connectivity” can make a huge difference in some situations. Also if you are into custom Waveform creation then having the sampler is important, and if tracking/slicing and dicing audio is your thing, then integrating the sampler into the sequencer, is everything… Etc., etc., etc., I guess you have to allow that other users may have a different set of demands from the product from what you expect. I usually conclude that when some one asks the question, as above, they themselves cannot find a good reason to possibly spend more money (I wonder what those people could possibly be wanting to do?)… This usually means you have purchased the right product, for YOU. And this is a very good thing!!! When spending more does not bring you significant gain, then don’t - you’ll usually know when you need that “next thing”, and when it is worth it to you, that’s when you should spend more to get it. But you’ll ‘know’ Make sense? |

Thanks for the answers!
I don’t really need the custom waveform creation on the board.
My question is, if this is worth more than double the price, primarily for te screen and sequencing inside the machine.

A few other things… dedicated transpose, split, and layer buttons, and the built in USB audio interface come to mind. |

Also, the MOXF’s sequencer can do step recording. |

Doesn’t the motif xf have a built in usb interface ? |

Yes, for MIDI but not audio. For audio, the Firewire Card is purchased separately, and provides multi-track audio to DAW. |

In the interest of making my bullet-list above more complete, here are a couple of other XF advantages that have come up in other threads…
* 8 zones instead of 4

A USB ASCII keyboard can be be attached to the XF’s TO DEVICE port. That makes it easier to name things, etc., rather than having to do character entry from the front panel. The XF will also allow a multi-port USB hub to be attached, so that the ASCII keyboard and one or more flash drives can remain attached (no swapping required). |

You can also connect Steinberg CMC-PD and CMC-FD controllers directly to the Motif XF |
