Hey all. I got a question about recording a song from Pattern mode. I have recorded my A and B sections in that mode and now when I playback, it’s not smooth. I unchecked the channel after touch, and even tried unchecking one at a time. No luck with having smooth playback after doing all that. Is there anything else I can do? |

You have not given us much to go on.
Are you using PLAY FX?
Are there any Program Change events in your tracks?
What setting do you have for the PATTERN QUANTIZE parameter?
There is no guarantee that just because the two Sections are the same tempo, that they work musically together… We assume you are thinking these two should go together. You may have work out a musical problem. We can’t tell without hearing what we’re dealing with… So you have to determine that
Some things that make for non-smooth transitions:
While you Section loops back to itself, everything sounds fine ...the silly 003 clock ticks that this crash cymbal is off doesn’t seem to matter… But as soon as you attempt to move to Section B that crash cymbal is early for Section B and might get clipped off after playing for just 03 clock ticks. Look for events in the track data that are suspiciously close to the end of Section A. |

Hi. I have a Yamaha Motif XF8. The Quantize is off I think. I hardly use it. |

And that is why you should check the position of your events… |

Hi Bad Mister. What do you mean? Once I make the recording, can’t I go back and make it smooth? |

What I mean is, if you are using quantize or not using quantize, when the transition is not working then it is time to start investigating the cause. This process begins by getting down to the event level of editing.
There are several things that come into play… Does it not work due to misplaced data?
Just because two Sections are at the same tempo does not mean they work transitioning one to the other… This can be very subjective or it can be very objective. We cannot really tell you why it does not work by how you describe it, music is so personal, individual and subjective. But often there is a reason - like a program Change event in the middle of a held note or programmed simultaneously with a Note-on event…
Suffice it to say: You are at the point where you need to analyze the data you have recorded.
