I’ve been browsing the Motifator forum for a short while…and have been wowed by the answers given. Here’s my newbie question.

I’m thinking about purchasing a Motif XF6. The XF7 or 8 might be a bit too expensive for my budget. I have a Yamaha CP 300 (88 notes, with graded hammer keyboard action) as my day-to-day keyboard. My question is:  if I plug my CP 300 to the Motif XF6 via midi, will I be able to get the same voices if I play notes on the CP300 that are lower on the keybed than the Motif XF6’s? For example, if I play C1 on the CP300, will I hear a C1 taken from the voices of the Motif XF6? Or will I get «silence»?

Best regards

P.S. The CP 300 has a «Master mode, which allows you to independently control up to four external tone generators».

Welcome to the forum.

The XF6 Voices are the same as those in the XF7 or XF8. If the particular Voice (or Perfomance) you’ve selected has been programmed with something at C1, it will be played via MIDI by your CP300.

Many thanks 5pinDin,

I realize my question should have been more precise:

If I play a two-handed piece on the CP300 (no programming yet, just the sheet music!) linked by midi to the XF6 and have left hand notes that are lower than the XF6 lowest notes, will I hear them as if I were playing an XF8 (say a Grand PIano type voice)?

Best regards

Many thanks 5pinDin,

I realize my question should have been more precise:

You’re welcome. Perhaps my answer should have been more detailed.

XF6 and XF8 tone generation and Voice programming are identical. When played by an external MIDI controller, the XF6 and XF8 react identically.

Or, as VikasSharma said, “Yes”. :-)
