I recently purchased a Motif XF8 and love it already! Does anyone know if tracks within the Motif XF8 can be exported individually into ProTools 10? I see that the Motif can export .wav tracks, but of course I would like to export individual tracks. As I am sure this question has been asked and answered already, I couldn’t find it in any threads. Thanks! |

Welcome to the forums! The is no special or particular link between the XF sequencer files and Pro Tool 10, as there is with Cubase. I guess this is to be expected since Yamaha owns Steinberg. Cubase can IMPORT a Motif XF Song from within an ALL data file (.X3A), such that MIDI data is imported to Cubase MIDI Tracks and any audio recorded using the XF’s Integrated Sampling Sequencer is imported directly to Cubase Audio Tracks. To do the same thing with any other DAW, including Pro Tools 10, you would need to have the XF export the Song as a Standard MIDI File (SMF) which is the very common .MID format. The MIDI data recorded to XF tracks will be included in the file. You would need to keep (STORE) the MIXING (tone generator) settings separately. If you recorded any audio (samples) to the XF sequencer you will need to manually place the audio to Pro Tools tracks. Each sample would need to be identified, saved as a 16-bit/44.1kHz .wav file (or aiff), then placed at the appropriate measure in your PT 10 session. The Cubase import function is elegant because you only need to SAVE a file and open it in the DAW. The manual method is still about saving a file and opening it but is less direct, is all. But it still is possible.
When you have completed your XF Song
Shuttle your USB stick to your computer, and import the file to Pro Tools 10
